Meet the Narrator: Brittany Nickel
Hi, I am Brittany Nickel. A lifeguard and swimming instructor by day, I have been recording non-commercial audiobooks for over 7 years, commercial audiobooks for 5 month, and enjoying every moment of it. I first started to explore my interest in audiobooks and voice work when I was young and liked to read books aloud to my younger siblings. I have completed projects up to 55 hours long (and that was only the first in a 4 part series) and have over one thousand published hours. I record, edit, and produce all of my work; including soundscaping, foley, and adding music to enhance my audiobooks. I have recorded a bit of everything at this point; Action, Romance, and even some Non-fiction.
This was my first foray into the Just Cause Universe and I don’t regret a second of it. Healy’s writing is clear, action packed, and he doesn’t skimp on emotional character scenes either. Which gave me room to play as the narrator. I had fun finding each of the characters’ distinct voices (there were so many, it was tough not to repeat any!). I got to play with pacing in the action scenes; and because Sally’s superpower is speed I really thought about the speed I spoke at whenever her powers came into play. The high emotions in certain scenes (mostly the ones about Orb’s death but also Sally’s fear near the end) were amazing as a narrator because I got to really go all out on the acting side of things. I have to say, Vanitha ended up being my favourite character; a combination of her powers, the voice I gave her, and having to look up her name five times to be sure I pronounced it properly (and probably still didn’t) somehow endeared her to me. I hope she shows up again in future Just Cause books.
