Meet the Narrator: Jodi Evans
Hi, I’m Jodi, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Just Cause Universe as a narrator! As a radio announcer, I’ve had some pretty great gigs, hosting radio shows, voicing commercials and attending fun events. And now, I am excited to also be an audiobook narrator!
I’m a Canadian who loves the crisp clean air of the mountains, the warmth of family and the adventure of reading. I started recording The Neighborhood Watch during the long, cold days of the polar vortex, in a recording studio with hot tea which progressed into Mexican Cokes…more about that later.
On a bitterly cold day in February, I received an email from Ian Thomas Healy, offering the narration job of The Neighborhood Watch. I was honored that he would trust my vocal interpretation of his characters and book. Ecstatic to start this journey, I read the story and immediately fell in love with the characters. The kids of the Neighborhood Watch are good, wholesome middle schoolers and I became quite fond of them.
I recorded The Neighborhood Watch during the winter months initially drinking tea and then rewarding myself with a sip of Mexican Coke, after every chapter. Why Mexican Coke?
The kids of the Neighborhood Watch keep their headquarters stocked with the stuff and as a Canadian, I had never had one! During the recording of The Neighborhood Watch, I went on a trip to Vegas & hit up the Coca Cola store with one intention, to find Mexican Coke! I quenched my thirst with a huge bottle and once I got back to Canada, Mexican Cokes started popping up at stores everywhere, so here we are…me back in the studio, with a Mexican Coke as my treat & inspiration.
I had a blast reading & recording The Neighborhood Watch. The kids brought me back to a simpler time, when school and friends were the main focus of a single day. I mean I never hung out in a superhero’s headquarters but I did have sleepovers, pool parties and crushes. The kids of the Neighborhood Watch’s lives are much more complicated as all that of course, they are superheroes too and that’s where the adventure comes in.
Ian Thomas Healy’s writing is delightful. He introduced me to a world of parahuman preteens with hearts of gold. I am eager to begin narrating the next book with the same kids, Cinco de Mayo which picks up a few years after The Neighborhood Watch left off. I think maybe instead of Mexican Coca-Cola in the recording studio this time, it might be margaritas.
